Why is There Death?

Uncategorized

Death, ruthlessly it plunders on! Leaving in its wake broken hearts, broken lives, broken homes, broken relationships. It rips away our loved ones without returning them to their places! Again, again, and again, death strikes all over the world – none of us are safe! We will all fall victim to its clutches! Death doesn’t care in what way it claims its victims. Some fall by disease, some accidental, some by suicide, some at the hands of others. Yet, the end result is the same – they are gone – forever! All over the news, we are reminded of its ugliness – repetitively! In the newspaper too, we see the obituaries. We drive by the cemeteries. We just can’t escape the terrible reality of it! But why……..why……..why, is there death all about us? Is it merely, as “animals” that we live and die, and then cease to exist? Has the god, called Evolution, really not been able to overcome death and have us live forever? Is the god, called Evolution, so cruel, as to treat us like non-humans and give us no hope whatsoever beyond the grave? What about religion, has it done any better? It tells us, if you do good enough, you might – maybe – get into a wonderful, permanent place, after you die. Yet, this too, rings hollow, and gives us no peace, no assurance.

So, what is this that we are not to be fooled by?

Motivational?

Christian LifeThe Gospel

The motivational movement has become all the rage! Yes, even in Christian circles! Yet, it is incumbent upon us to take a good look at this phenomena, and make certain we are standing on solid ground!  It might seem logical that we all need a good “pat on the back,” that is, a little encouragement. As it is a wonderful thing when we build each other up, particularly as believers!  However, is this actually what is transpiring, or are we being misled by all the smiles and enthusiasm?  Let us take a look…

How Church Can be Hazardous!

Christian LifeThe Gospel

Church, isn’t it supposed to be a good place? A safe place? How then can it be a hazardous place? I liken it to a garden or field with land mines planted here and there! The field is good. The land mines don’t make it bad. The land mines are what is bad! So the church is good, but can be fraught with danger too! Let us examine at least three ways in which the church can be a dangerous place, and expose the “land mines”!

The Devil’s Grace

Christian LifeThe Gospel

In today’s day, we hear a lot about grace! It seems it’s the latest fad! So what is all the hype about? I ask, why is today’s teaching so dangerous?

Now, it isn’t that grace is not good, it is! Yet, the Word of God warns us that a time will come when people will surround themselves to hear what they want to hear. That is, they want the “feel good” messages! They want the motivational “pep talk”! They don’t want to hear anything negative. They don’t want to hear about sin. They don’t want to hear about consequences for their sin! No, they only want to hear about how much God loves them!
