Meeting Requirements for Heaven
Have you ticked all the boxes to make sure you’ll be in Heaven, that God requires of you? We know that if you wanted to be a pilot, for example, that it is a long arduous ordeal to get to be an airline pilot! There is the ground training. Followed by hands on learning. Then you have a long process of different ratings to meet. One must have so and so many hours of flight time. Then too, one must meet certain health tests. One must never be under the influence of alcohol, and so on. This is what we as people have come to expect when one wants a certain career! Now, if God, the most supreme being of all; the one who is perfect in every way, is putting out an invitation to come to His holy Heaven…well, the requirements must have to be the most staggering one has ever beheld! Shall we take a look?
Can I Change?
We read it this way, “Can…the leopard change his spots?” The answer is obvious! (Jeremiah 13:23) Often people say, “Repent!” By this they mean we are to make reformation in our lives. Yet, as we just saw, this is an impossible demand! However, the true definition of the word “repent,” means to have a change of mind. To think differently. Yes, we must come to think differently. We cannot still be thinking that we can make ourselves good enough for God! We can’t! No more than the leopard can change its spots! So then, what does God require? Should we not confess all our sins to Him? Then surely He would accept us, would He not? No, this is not the case either. Besides, do you really think you can list all the sins you’ve ever committed since you were born? Would you truly remember each one, or even be aware of what is all sin? No, this too is an impossible feat! So what does God require? The answers are listed right here:
So…..what then??? This is what: “Christ died for the ungodly.” “While we were sinners, Christ died for us.” “While we were enemies we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son.” (Romans 5:6, 8, 10) I ask, are you one of these: ungodly, sinner, enemy? If so, Christ died for you! This that we would be “reconciled to God.” (Romans 5:10)
See then, that God did this for us, because it was the only way! We could not make ourselves righteous! We could not clean ourselves up! We must come to see that we are lost. That we are helpless to save ourselves, or help ourselves in any way! It can be real hard to face up to the truth that all we can produce is “dead works” – “filthy rags.” Yet, it is vital to conclude, that I am not a good person, and I can do nothing to make myself a good person! That either we accept God’s offer of salvation as a gift, or I must face the horrendous consequences of the awfulness of my own sin! Yes, God is holy and just, and must therefore punish all sin. This is why the Lake of Fire is a fact. Thankfully, God the Father sent His only begotten Son to take your punishment for you – on the cross – because of your sins! He paid the penalty for all your sins, past and future too! It was the only way! If it was up to us to turn from all sin, we would all fail. If it was up to us to confess all our sin, we wouldn’t even remember or know them all! Hence, all would fail. If it is up to us to be good enough, we would all fail, for none are perfect. If it is up to us to live a perfect life after we claim to have been saved, we would all fail. No, it is by the grace of God as a gift. Yes, a gift from God to you. So, it’s time to make a decision. Will you accept God’s gift to you?
“For there is no distinction: for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, whom God put forward as a propitiation by his blood, to be received by faith.” Romans 3:22-25
“For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 6:23
“For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing: it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.” Ephesians 2:8-9
Do you believe? Will you let Jesus be your Saviour? “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” Romans 10:13
